Elizabeth Garofalo

Dr. Garofalo served as Senior Vice President and Global Head of Clinical Development at Novartis from 2010 to 2016, and a member of the Novartis Global Development Leadership Team, Chair of the Novartis Portfolio Stewardship Board and Co-Head of the Novartis Neuroscience Franchise. Prior to that, she was Vice President and Head of the Neuroscience Therapy Area at Astellas. She started her career at Parke-Davis/Pfizer where she had jobs of increasing responsibility, including Ann Arbor Site Head of Neuroscience and Ann Arbor Site Head of Worldwide Regulatory Affairs.

Dr. Garofalo’s expertise includes protocol design, global clinical development plans, biomarker strategies, and ensuring operational excellence across drug development projects in neurology, psychiatry, and ophthalmology. In a recent role her duties included oversight of regulatory strategy, regulatory operations, and Clinical QA for compounds in the CNS and anti-inflammatory therapeutic areas.

She earned her M.D. from the Indiana University School of Medicine where she completed her pediatric residency. She completed fellowships in pediatric neurology and epilepsy at the University of Michigan Medical School. Prior to entering the industry, she was on the faculty at the University of Michigan and was responsible for the pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit.
